JACK'S MOTORCYCLE

Ever since I became a grandfather in 1988, I have wanted to build a rocking horse for one of the kids but never had the time. Finally, in 1998, an opportunity presented itself. I found the time and a neat plan in a woodworking catalog and I was hooked. Our grandchild, Jack Darrah, was 20 months old and just the right age and size for a rocking toy.

I tinker a little in the shop, but am not a skilled woodworker. It took many more hours than I anticipated and if I were to do another, I would have used a scroll saw which I later purchased. I burned up more saber saw blades than I could count. It took some doing and help with sanding and finishing from my wife, Lynn, but it was ready by Christmas. Fortunately, we traveled to California for the Holidays and were able to be there when he got it. It was quite a thrill.
