Nassau
(The first time)

We needed to be in Nassau to meet Don and Pam Pyke and the forecast indicated that the weather could get worse. Our crossing from Royal Island was not as rough as the Gulf Steam crossing or the jumps to Great Sale or Powell Cays, but it was a little lumpy. Fortunately, we had plenty of daylight to make the trip and slowed a bit and tacked into the seas instead of taking them head on so it was not bad and we actually made pretty good time.

Nassau is a place you either love or hate. I think the consensus of cruisers is hate, but we like it.  Anchoring in the harbor is not easy and there are a lot of boats using what little good space there is. We shrug it off and stay in a nice marina, Nassau Yacht Haven, in a great location. We did some diving (with Bahama Divers), a little provisioning and were joined there by the Pykes.

The Pykes were our first fairly long term cruising guests, joining us on March 2 and departing on the 20th. We can’t say enough about what great sports they were, how they were fully participating crew members, or how much we enjoyed their visit.
