Crossing
This photo is not actually from our crossing, we were a little busy to use the camera. This is what the water looked like a few days before in the nor'easter.

Wind against current can cause some nasty conditions in the Gulf Stream so we waited until the wind was forecast to clock around to east/southeast. We left the slip in Fort Lauderdale about 4:00 am thinking there would be plenty of light to find our way out of the ICW and the Port Everglades entry. Wrong. We did find the way but with more difficulty than expected. Once out of Port Everglades, we turned toward West End on Grand Bahama. All day we anticipated the shifting of winds to the east but the change never came. We beat against wind and waves all the way. This cost us considerable speed, some considerable discomfort, and was rough on the boat.

Once across the Stream, conditions improved and we made it to the customs and immigration office at 4:55. We have said many times we think the Bahamians are great people. The officer reinforced this opinion by staying past his 5:00 quitting time to check us in.
