GENERAL INFORMATION

Sunspot Baby is a 1994 Prout 38' Manta, built in South Africa. We purchased her in Fort Lauderdale in July of 2001. She was named Jamaican Breeze and had South African registry. A true blue water cruiser, she has crossed the Atlantic three times. Now USCG registered (# 1116690) she is officially Sunspot Baby. Oriental, NC is her hailing port but we live a few miles up the river at New Bern (it's a long story).

After buying her we sailed her from Fort Lauderdale to Oriental. From August 8, 2001 to August 13, we covered over 500 sea miles off shore and over 100 up the ICW. Since then we have done seven cruises of about six months in duration to the Bahamas.

At first, most of our time was spent working on her to make her our own, getting used to some of her quirks, and fixing a few items. Now we are sailing more including cruises to the Bahamas during winters.. That is not to say we have quit spending money or improving her, repairs and or upgrades happen all the time.

We are on the Neuse River just above Pamlico Sound so there is a lot of reasonably protected water for us to sail in the summers when we are in the U.S. We expect to have a lot of enjoyment sailing her both with friends aboard and with just to two of us. After a couple few in the Bahamas and/or Caribbean, who knows what comes next? Maybe longer passages and new waters. Maybe the easy life style will be too good to leave behind.

If you have questions or comments, we would love to hear from you.
